"It is old but it is beautiful, and its colours they are fine..." – The BANNERS of Reform Jersey v Establishment Party

YELLOW AND BLACK v BLUE AND WHITE

The battle lines are now drawn in District No.1 St Helier by-election, as they are being drawn for the forthcoming Autumn General Election.  Reform Jersey has raised the banner of social justice and democratic reform on behalf of the ordinary working people of Jersey. On the other side is the Establishment Party. In District No.1 St Helier Gordon Forrest has been chosen to be their representative.

It will be hard for some, who prefer to live in the past, to accept that something significant is happening in St Helier politically. The old era is passing. The pundits are silenced by the irrelevance of their ignorance. The election in District No.1 is a two horse race.

TTS erected barriers yesterday and this morning Establishment Party candidate Gordon Forrest put up his first banner. He was beaten to the best positions by Reform, who was out at 10pm the previous evening in wind and rain securing the most advantageous locations.

Excellent! That made me smile. I'm not a voter in the district but I'd vote for you for that commitment alone. You are first out the blocks, agile and decisive. What's not to like?

Although I'm an affluent, middle class, right wing Tory I still think the States Assembly needs you and Sam Mezec for your commitment to social justice and, quite simply, the fact that the pair of you obviously have a very powerful brain (each) between those ears. The Jersey establishment should use your talents, not denigrate you. I'm also sick to the back teeth of listening to a States Assembly where the quality of the speeches is risible. I enjoy listening to you and Sam even if I disagree with you because the pair of you deliver an intelligent debate.

Anyway, good luck, hope you get in. Word on the street is that all the new residents at Castle Quay will be targeted; there is no reason you could not be successful there, so long as you show support for our main industry (the good bits of it) as well as social justice. Put to bed all these myths about Nick the Red and you are sorted.

  3. "for it`s old and it is beautiful and it`s colours they are fine" well Nick, I would not expect you to know this but that is the opening line of the "SASH" a hardcore protestant song favoured by Scottish Rangers supporters. No politician will get a vote from any Irish or Scottish Celtic supporters or Catholics come to that if they hear these lines!
    I am deadly serious.

  4. It was worn at Derry, Aughrim, Enniskillen and the Boyne"

I am fully aware of prejudice in Northern Ireland. My mother was from Belfast so I know the score and the songs of both sides.

Irony of course is something that is poorly understood in Jersey. There are far too many who see things literally.

I am glad you appreciated the allusion – banners (from 2008), old, but still fine and beautiful.
